Artificial intelligence is already here, but it's unevenly distributed.

JournalismAI, part of the London School of Economics' Department of Media and Communications, runs a festival and an academy for small newsrooms, performs research, and facilitates collaboration between newsrooms. They came to me wanting to open up some of their introductory resources to a larger audience. The result is JournalismAI Discovery, a six part newsletter-based course that covers the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, how they're used by newsrooms.

I've been using machine learning for investigative projects since 2013, so I had a lot of experience to pull from. I was also able to pull from JournalismAI's list of stories produced with the help of AI, the 2019 JournalismAI Report, and the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Collab Challenges. The resulting course is cross-disciplinary, practical and beginner-friendly, intending to give people a stepping stone to getting started with AI journalism projects.

You can read more about the course on the JournalismAI Discovery site.
